Training booking and attendance, built around the process

A bespoke booking and attendance system designed around an organisation's established way of running large-scale training.

Selected experience from a project delivered before Process Wranglers was founded. The organisation is not named and was not a Process Wranglers client.

The process, marked up

The decision

  1. Adopt a commercial product and change established working practices (not chosen)
  2. Design a bespoke system around the process that already worked (part of the solution)

The deciding question: should the organisation bend to the software, or the software to the organisation?

What was happening

An organisation needed a better way to manage large-scale training bookings and attendance.

Commercial alternatives were available, but adopting them would have meant changing established working practices that served the organisation well.

What needed to change

A system that matched how training was actually organised, booked and followed up, with better visibility of bookings and attendance.

What was done

Mike was involved in designing the system around the operating process, working from the available documentation and conversations with the people involved.

His role included the design and development of the bespoke application.

Why that approach

Fitting the software to a working process avoided forcing the organisation to reshape that process around a product.

The outcome

A system that fitted the established process instead of replacing it.

Better visibility of bookings and attendance for the people running the training.

Less administrative friction in organising sessions.
